‘You will not be able to plug in, turn on and drop out’ – unless TLS are in the room!

When: 13 June 2019

Where: King Tut’s

Support: Black King Cobra; Dead Coyotes

Any band that comes on to the late, great Gil Scott-Heron’s ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’ immediately has me on their side. And it is another indication (their name being the most obvious clue!) that this is a rarity among American rock groups of a more classic bent – a political band. The whole set is infused with a radical edge and political statements tumble out of vocalist Delila Paz’s lyrics and banter – no wall could keep her in check.

Having said that, what really does the talking tonight is the music – mostly hard, bluesy rock delivered with power, control and emotion. And it is loud!

Delila does a Sam Cooke number, ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’, in a slower soulful voice wandering among the crowd (allowing with some of them to share her vocals) and does one song with just her and acoustic guitar on stage. But the evening is best when her soul drenched bluesy vocals are allied to the rock guitar powerhouse that is Edgey Pires. His playing is at times incendiary and always impressive. Edgey (like ‘The Edge’ but with added rock venom?) and Delila together are seemless rock nirvana. The drummer (sorry don’t know his name) ensures that a hard, frenetic beat pulses behind the main duo.

They really deserved a larger and younger crowd. Those who turned up are enthusiastic and were rewarded with a great performance from a great live band.

Having read this I believed it was very enlightening.
I appreciate you spending some time and energy to put this information together.
I once again find myself spending a significant amount of time both reading
and commenting. But so what, it was still worth it!
