Broadcast

Broadcast (like their very similar close neighbour Nice N Sleazy) is a bar whose basement hosts gigs. The main bar has decent décor and well-priced alcohol and food. The basement is accessed by the stairs immediately to your right on entering but you first have to check in at the ‘box office’ by the top of the stairs to have your hand acquire a felt tip pen tick.

The basement is rectangular in shape and not very wide but then the capacity is small. At one end, there is a concession stand and small bar and at the other end is the, barely raised, stage area. Along both sides there are some tables and chairs for those who like to watch their gigs sitting down. Incongruously a glittering disco ball hangs from the ceiling. The sound could be better and you need to be careful not to get stuck behind a pillar or a tall person but the strength of the venue is that you can get so close to the band which engenders a very intimate feel for most gigs. This leads to some good natured banter between artist and crowd.

And for some unknown reason, most shows I have attended have attracted relatively few punters even for excellent performers (only Aldous Harding was sold out). So as a music venue it is fairly basic but it attracts interesting artists and its size allows for potentially good interactions with them.
