Band Previously Seen: 3/4/17 (supporting Blaenavon), King Tut’s; 5/5/19 Stag & Dagger Festival
Gravelle kicked things off with their entertaining, committed set of goth rock electronicaDamnDirtyDuke followed with an uncompromising setThis is the third time I’ve seen TNW – their short support set at King Tut’s in 2017 was impressive but their Stag & Dagger was (through no fault of theirs) spoilt by poor sound and venue. Tonight they are on fire – a great, full on set that the crowd loves. It is also a set dominated by latest EP. Infancy Pt.1Haydn, bare chest and in a kilt, gets down among the punters. We are treated to their 80s infused post punk (Millie once said her favourite description of them was ‘post punk noir’, although she was laughing as she said it). They have also been described as noise pop, and there are elements of indie rock, and all are on display tonight.Millie gives it some vocal welly. One of their strengths is their dual vocal attack and the fact that both Haydn and Millie are charismatic stage performers. They deserve all the plaudits they have been getting over the last 18 months – this was a hugely enjoyable gig and the new EP is strong – and I look forward to seeing them again soon.
