Whispering Sons go the evening off to a good startLet’s go!This tour is promoting their latest Black Gold – a greatest hits album. And so there are many crowd pleasers tonight – from opening number ‘An End Has A Start’ to final encore song ‘Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors’. Editors are often depicted as a sombre band (think of all those early comparisons to Joy Division) but the set illustrates just how wrong that is – the lyrics of some songs may be dark but the live delivery is more euphoric than sombre.I have always thought that the band Editors had most musical affinity to was Interpol – the same dark strain of indie rock allied to some great melodies and hooks. Both bands have my love.Ed lays down some awesome beats. If Tom’s singing tonight is fantastic it is able to shine so much because the rest of the band are awesome.Tom Smith shows he is equally adept at guitar …… and pianoThis is the fifth time I have seen the band and as always I am left very impressed and very happy. My favourite songs tonight are ‘An End Has A Start’ (what a way to begin!), ‘The Racing Rats’, ‘Smokers…’, ‘The Weight of the World’ and especially ‘All Sparks’ (see video below).Take a well deserved bow lads!
