Dec 23A PRONTO MAMA CHRISTMAS AND ANY JOY TO ALL!
Where: King Tut’s
When: 21 December
Support: Fiskur
Glasgow band playing a sold-out show at a venerated Glasgow venue just before Christmas – what more could you want? Maybe being pick of the week in The Guardian – check! (‘Between a rockier Fleet Foxes and a jazzier Phantom Band, the Glasgow six piece play around with styles and speeds (not unlike Bombay Bicycle Club) but keep it tight and preppy-poppy’).
Marc and Martin and Michael and Ciaran and Craig and Alex were all in fine form. And obviously very happy about the sold-out crowd and its boisterous reception. Afterwards they posted on Facebook: ‘Glasgow- a pleasure as always. Selling out King Tuts so far in advance and hearing Any Joy sung back to us in full voice from beginning to end was a dream.’ The set obviously leant heavily on their debut album released in mid-2017, Any Joy.
One of the joys of the band is their ability to encompass a variety of styles often with unusual rhythms and time signatures– the bedrock of indie rock/pop being supplemented by soul, the occasional brass drenched tune, and a show stopping a cappella number. Their audience also encompass a variety of styles and ages. That, and the band’s ability to connect with them (no rock star histrionics or showboating or any sense of ‘The Wall’), hopefully point to a bright future for PM.
A pleasure from start to finish – can’t wait to see them again in 2018.
